WET BELT SPECIALISTS

from a local name that you can trust

FORD, PEUGEOT & VAUXHALL wet belt specialists

HallCraft are wet belt specialists and our experience can help save car, van owners and businesses lost time and thousands of pounds.

Modern engines are designed for efficiency, performance, and reduced emissions — and one key part of that system is the wet belt.

HallCraft have carved a reputation for their specialist wet belt knowledge, saving motorists thousands and keeping vehicles on the road with early pre-emptive action.

Unlike traditional dry timing belts, wet belts run inside the engine, lubricated by oil.

This setup reduces friction, improves fuel economy, and helps engines run more quietly.

However, because wet belts operate in oil, their health depends directly on regular maintenance and correct grade and specification of engine oil.

Failing to look after these belts can lead to serious engine damage and costly repairs — something HallCraft’s technicians see far too often.

WHY WET BELT MAINTENANCE MATTERS

The wet belt keeps the top and bottom of the engine’s timing precise and believe the two most common problems causing wet belt failures are:

  • Lack of routine servicing, oil quality and incorrect specification.
  • Drive cycle & vehicle usage habits

Do not cut corners and contribute to your wet belt failure with cheap oils!

One of the biggest factors affecting wet belt life is the condition of your engine oil.

Old, contaminated, or incorrect oil can cause the belt to break down, and over time debris from the belt starts to block critical oil galleries, that eventually results in component failures including items such as oil pumps and brake vacuum pumps.

In severe cases the belt will fail stripping its teeth or breaking entirely causing catastrophic engine failure.

Not doing long journeys, or using your car or van to do stop start journey’s?

This can contribute to premature wet belt failures.

Known as bore wash if your engine isn’t getting upto temperature often, the DPF regeneration process starts but doesn/t complete on a diesel or you have faulty fuel injectors, excessive fuel passes the piston rings and dilutes the engine oil in the sump.

Diluted, contaminated engine oil allows the wet belt to degrade.

This is why so many modern engines are fitted with oil sensors that monitor and calculate oil degradation.

Do not ignore your service light!

What can go wrong if a wet belt is negated?

If oil changes and driving habits are ignored the wet belt will suffer, and the consequences can be severe:

  • Belt degradation – pieces of belt start shedding into the oil system.
  • Oil contamination – debris clogs filters and damages vital components.
  • Loss of timing – valves and pistons collide, often destroying the engine.
  • Expensive repairs – a failed wet belt can cost thousands to fix, a majority of the time a complete engine replacement is necessary.

At HallCraft, we often see engine failures that, in some cases, could have been prevented with timely maintenance.
